Insurance on the agenda at BHK board meeting

HOUGHTON – At Monday’s regular Board of Directors Meeting, BHK Child Development board members discussed renewing the health insurance plan with no change to to coverage with an employee contribution of 13 percent and no change to the HRA. Currently, BHK’s insurance is with Blue Cross, but they were considering another insurance company.

“We were waiting for a quote from CMI,” said Human Resources Director Heather Guilbault, “and when we finally pushed them they said CMI was shutting its doors.”

The meeting revealed that the co-pay to employees is actually 11 percent currently, whereas the Parent/Policy Council recommended the co-pay rate set at 13 percent.

“We should be pushing for closer to 80/20 percent,” board Chairman Koray Inal said.

“If we go above 15 percent, with our wages where they currently are, it puts us out of what the Health Care Reform says is an allowable amount, so we can only go up so much.”
