National awards given to recognize local healthcare

LAURIUM? – Local healthcare providers have received national recognition for their efforts.

According to a release from Asprius, the Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital has been recognized as a top performer in peunomina and surgical care by the Joint Commission’s Top Performer program. The program recognizes “accredited hospitals that attain excellence on accountability measure performance shown to be the best treatments for certain conditions,” the release stated.

Director of Quality Liz Siivola stated in the release this is the third time the hospital has been recognized as a top performer in those two areas.

“This affirms our commitment to consistently provide the highest level of care for each patient we serve, and is a credit to the excellent work of our patient care staff,” Siivola stated.

The hospital also received recognition from iVantage Health Analytics and the National Organization of State Offices of Rural Health (NOSORH), making the top quartile among acute care hospitals in the nation. NOSORH rankings are designated by the Hospital Strength INDEX. The assessment, the release stated, captures performance metrics for more than 4,000 acute care hospitals, including over 1,300 rural and Critical Access Hospitals.

“These top quartile performers should take great pride in this recognition. It showcases their commitment to continuous performance analysis and improvement.” Michael Topchik, senior vice president of iVantage Health Analytics, stated in the release.
