App challenge open until Jan. 15

WASHINGTON? – The Congressional App Challenge has kicked off, and is seeking to encourage northern Michigan students to get creative.

According to a release from Rep. Dan Benishek’s office, the contest is to develop mobile applications to improve people’s lives.

The entry period for the contest ends January 15, and judging will end Feb. 12. Winners will be announced Feb. 22.

“Science, technology, engineering, and math are critical skills that have been proven to lead to good-paying jobs right here in Northern Michigan and around the country. We need to foster an appreciation for STEM at a young age, and this contest is a fun opportunity for students to innovate for the future,” stated Rep. Dan Benishek, a member of the STEM Caucus in Congress.

Eligible students must live and attend school in Michigan’s First District. They must be in high school, and must have been 13 years of age by Nov. 9. Apps can be submitted by individuals, or in groups up to four. All entries must be original, appropriate, and have been created before. Jan. 15.
