BOULDER, Colo. – Don Sawaski, 72, former athletic director at Houghton High School and part-time resident of Longmont, Colorado, appeared in Boulder County Court on Feb. 4 at 1:30 p.m. to face the charge of being a fugitive of justice from the state of Michigan, according to a spokesperson from the Boulder County Courthouse.

While specifics of the hearing are not yet known, Sawaski posted $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Boulder County court again on April 4.

It is expected that Houghton County will start extradition proceedings to bring Sawaski back to Michigan on an arrest warrant for possession of child sexual material. Extradition involves the county prosecutor submitting a request to the Governor’s Office, which then makes a request to the Colorado Governor’s Office.
