Spark Plug awards for community achievers

CALUMET – Mark Wilcox talked about a snowblower’s spark plug, the least expensive part of an engine.

“It’s a tiny thing,” he said, “But that tiny thing makes the whole (machine work).”

Wilcox gave the opening remarks at the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce’s annual Keweenaw Community Spark Plug Awards Dinner for 2015.

The event took place at 5:50 p.m. at the Siskiwit Reception Hall and Conference Center in Calumet.

The Spark Plug Award is given in recognition of individuals or companies for outstanding achievements in the community over the past year. There are six categories that are awarded.

The categories are:

Community Development; Growth; Customer Service/Quality/Teamwork; Transformation/Innovation; Professional of the Year/ Person/Project of the Year; and Young Professional of the Year.

“These people, often unnoticed,” Wilcox said, “make our communities work.”
