HOUGHTON – A two-vehicle property damage accident occurred Wednesday at the Houghton terminal of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge at approximately 11 a.m.

A motorist in a gray sedan approached the stop sign on the southern approach to the bridge and lost traction, sliding into oncoming through-traffic, according to Houghton Police Lt. Nick Roberts. The vehicle was then struck by an approaching pickup truck, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. One person was injured in the accident, a passenger in the sedan. The passenger was transported to UP Health System – Portage hosital by Mercy Ambulance. No tickets have been issued, an no names have been released pending further investigation.
