ATLANTIC MINE – The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a larceny of nine vehicle batteries this week at the U-Haul parking lot in Atlantic Mine.

The thefts occurred late Monday night or early Tuesday morning, according to a release, when the batteries were taken out of U-Haul trucks at the lot on M-26.

Five of the batteries were group size 78; the others were group size 65. A smaller dark-colored car with roundish tail lights was seen in the parking lot between 2:30 and 3 a.m. Tuesday. At least two people were in it.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department at 482-0055.
