Finlandia to host scholars

HANCOCK?- Those interested in learning about Finland’s response to asylum seekers are invited to attend a presentation at Finlandia.

According to a release from the university, historian Juhana Aunesluoma from the University of Helsinki and Matti Jutila, a political scientist from the University of Turku will discuss how the Finns are handling the more than 32,000 asylum seekers from the Middle East and Afghanistan.

The presentation will take place at 2 p.m. Monday at Finlandia University’s Finnish American Heritage Center.

The release said the pair is currently working at the University of Minnesota, and will address a variety of questions, including “How are the Finns responding to the asylum seekers?”and “What effect does this have in Finland?”

Both men presented on World War II from a Finnish perspective at the FAHC last year to a near-capacity audience.
