Plea deal possible for alleged arrow shooter

HOUGHTON – A plea deal is on the horizon for a Hancock man who allegedly shot another man with an arrow during an argument in February.

James Walters, Jr., 58, of Hancock, waived his preliminary hearing in 97th District Court Wednesday. He faces an attempted murder charge for an incident at a house on Summit Street where he allegedly shot a 56-year-old man in the shoulder. The two were reportedly arguing over a cell phone.

If convicted, Walters could spend up to life in prison.

Walters’ attorney, David Gemignani, said there is a proposed plea agreement that cannot be implemented until the case reaches circuit court.

A date for his circuit court arraignment had not yet been set as of Wednesday.

Walters is lodged in the Houghton County Jail on a $500,000 cash or surety bond.
