Bicyclist struck by car near campus

HOUGHTON – A bicyclist suffered minor injuries after being struck by a car in Houghton Friday.

The accident occurred about 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Peal Street and Townsend Drive, said Houghton Lt. Nick Roberts.

A 29-year-old man driving north on Pearl hit an 18-year-old woman was riding east on Townsend, who he failed to see.

The bicyclist suffered minor injuries, but did not need transport to a hospital.

The driver was cited for failure to yield, a civil infraction.

Punishment is a $140 fine and two points being put on the driver’s license for two years.
