Smuggling Bust: Two women arraigned on felony drug charges
HOUGHTON – Deputies from the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department on Wednesday morning arrested two local women on felony charges, according to a news release.
According to Houghton County 97th District Court, Jamie Pauline Ekdahl, 29, of Calumet, and Sarah Jean McMahon, 35, of Laurium, were each charged with delivery and manufacture of a controlled substance, with another charge of furnishing contraband to prisoners.
Delivery and manufacture of a controlled substance is a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and $10,000. Furnishing contraband to prisoners is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and $1,000. Both women were arraigned Wednesday and are scheduled to appear in District Court for preliminary examination on May 11 at 10 a.m.
Bond for Ekdahl and McMahon was set at $1,000 each. Both females are currently lodged in the Houghton County Jail.
