L’ANSE TOWNSHIP – Three juveniles were hospitalized Thursday in a one-vehicle ATV rollover accident on Keranen Road near Summit Road.

The ATV was driven by a 16-year-old male, who was first taken to Baraga County Memorial Hospital and later transferred to Marquette General Hospital, sheriff’s police said. A 6-year-old female passenger was also hospitalized. A 7-year-old passenger, who was wearing a helmet, was treated at the scene by Bay Ambulance personnel.

Both passengers were wearing seatbelts, but a statement from sheriff’s police failed to state whether the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Police determined excessive speed was the cause, as the ATV left the roadway after the driver lost constrol and rolled three times before ending up on its wheels, sheriff’s police said.

Baraga and Michigan State police officers assisted at the scene.
