Food, dancing at Labor Day Festival

ONTONAGON – Saturday’s activities at the Labor Day Festival in Ontonagon will be capped off with a community dance at the Recreation Center from 9 p.m. to midnight featuring Borderline with Mike Urbis.

Food and other refreshments will be available and door prizes include a casino golf package and gift certificates to Econo Foods and Pat’s Foods. Raffle tickets will be on sale for $1 each for a drawing at 8 p.m. Sunday at the center, for which winners need not be present. Tickets to get into the recreation center cost $3 per person or two for $5, less than in past years.

Saturday’s events kick off with the 8 a.m. registration for the Laborfest Auto Show, which will be set up from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Trophies and prizes will be awarded.

For avid golfers, the Superior Golf Shoot-Out will begin at the Ontonagon Golf Club at 9 a.m.

A local favorite, Maxwell Street Days will feature sidewalk sales from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the main drag, River Street, where games and bounce houses will be available for kids. Prize drawings will be at noon at Forever Flowers.

Auction block appraisals will be available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Community Action building, accessible by the Spar Street entrance just off River Street.

The Ontonagon Historical Museum will be open all day, and where at 10 a.m. Ben Strong will conduct a historical tour of downtown buildings he set up as his Eagle Scout project.

Aspirus Fitness Center will have an open house with food and prizes from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Register for a Lip Sync Contest by 12:30 p.m. The contest will be at 1 p.m. on the corner of Houghton and River streets with cash prizes in pre-school, elementary, high school and adult categories.
