Baraga village, township board members gain votes

HOUGHTON – Baraga County villages and townships board members chalked up votes in Tuesday’s election.

In Baraga Village, President Wendell Dompier got 304 votes, Cynthia A. Wadaga got 273 for treasurer, and trustees Paul Mayo, Sandy Johnson, Jeannine Mayo and Anthony Mayo received 306, 248, 222 and 219 votes each.

In L’Anse Village, President Ronald Ervast got 589 votes, trustees Kerri Kissel-Sikkila got 511, Jason VanStraten got 405 and Christopher Miller got 397.

Arvon Township Republicans Lisa M. Marinich got 246 votes for clerk, Krystal Larson got 250 for treasurer, and trustee candidates Keith A. Erickson and Karl G. Gipp got 230 and 229 votes respectively. Democrat James Soli earned 211 votes for supervisor.

In Baraga Township, Democrats Amy Isaacson got 862 votes for supervisor, Michelle Fish got 813 votes for clerk, and Catherine Wadaga got 842 votes for treasurer. Republican candidate for trustees Jerry Dompier got 780 votes to beat Glenn Juntunen who got 753.

In Covington Township, Democrat Lowella Eskel edged out Republican Amber Franti, 133 to 113. Republican Amy Leaf got 195 votes for clerk, and Democrat Lisa M. Karcher got 196 for treasurer. Republicans Laurie Ahola and Tom McCann got 158 and 105 votes respectively for trustee and Democrat Lisa Tarvainen got 154.

L’Anse Township voters gave Democrats PJ LeClaire 1,198 votes for supervisor, Brian Jentoft 1,213 for clerk, Kristine Rice 1,197 for treasurer. Both Democrats, Jennie E. Nordstrom lost the constable race to John P. Robillard 994 to 1,067. Republican trustees Peter Magaraggia earned 1,141 votes and Shelley Lloyd got 1,091.

Spurr Township voters gave Republicans Linda Legacy 118 votes for clerk, and Richard Taylor 88 for trustee. Democrats Michael Hosey got 107 votes for supervisor, Martha Nurmela 118 votes for treasurer, and Rose M. Ekdahl had 101 votes for trustee.
