Security upgrades to come at Chassell School

CHASSELL – One of the top priorities at the Chassell school is to upgrade door locks, Howard Parmentier, superintendent said. While some of the locks are old, others are now obsolete.

“When this building was built in 1992, they purchased the locks from a local business, I believe, from here in Chassell, but I’m not sure on that,” Parmentier said. “It was his license and the business was sold, and they passed that (license) on to the next. When that business closed, the licensure never went to the third, and currently we’re having trouble finding keys. We have them, but to have new ones made is beyond difficult.”

The new locks on the the main entrances will be keyless, which will help for safety, Parmentier said. With the new keyless system, any unlocked door can be identified on a computer system, and locked by that same system. The other outer doors will be “keyed the sam, kind of what they are now,” he said.

Inner doors locks will also be upgraded. The locks that were original to the doors when the school was built in 1992 were replaced sometime between 2002 and 2004, Parmentier said, but those locks are getting old and worn out, and need to be replaced again.

“Those are our two priorities, but that’s my opinion,” Parmentier said, and probably – definitely the parking.”
