HANCOCK — The Copper Country Intermediate School District recently hired some new personnel, while at the same time accepting the resignation of an instructional aide.

The board voted to hire Shauna Wunrow-Brushafer as a teacher for the Mild Cognitive Impairment Program (MiCI) at Hanock Middle School. She is replacing Courtney Kangas, who resigned in November.

“She’s coming from Colorado, and has experience in the type of classroom like she will be in,” Katrina Carlson, special education director said.

The board also voted to hire Judith Ruonavaara as a full-time school year Instructional bus aide for the Middle School/Hight School Social Skills Teaching Program, and kitchen helper. Ruonavaara has been serving as a temporary contracted aide.

“She has been subbing for us,” Carlson said, “and she is certified in the kitchen, and has been subbing in that capacity and as a para-pro. So, we combined those job descriptions and would like to hire her.”

The board also hired Robert Mueller as a Senior Helpdesk Support Technician.

“With all the changes we had this year, we have 18 new interns for Helpdesk,” Mike Richardson Regional Education Media Center (REMC1) director said. “Bob actually isn’t an intern, he’s an older gentleman that applied for one of our full-time jobs, and he didn’t make the cut for that, but we offered him part-time working on the helpdesk. He’s been a great asset, particularly as our interns come and go with classes and exams and projects and sick, tests, studying or whatever. He’s been rock solid and we want to keep him around and keep him basically full-time, and we very much appreciate having him on the staff.”

At the same time, the board accepted with regret the resignation of Kayleen Anderson, instructional aide in the Elementary Social Skills Training Program. Anderson’s resignation was effective Wednesday.

“She’s been with us for a while, and she is excellent. She has chosen to go to Arizona for a few months and needs to resign. We’re sad to see her go. We hope she comes back to us some time if we have an opening,” Carlson said.
