HOUGHTON — New homes will be popping up in a new development on the hill in Houghton offering unique panoramic vistas.

“The views are incredible up there,” said Moyle Real Estate President Andy Moyle, regarding 21 residential lots in Oak Grove Estates the company developed behind the Holiday Inn Express. “The views are stunning. On a good day, you can see both sides” from the elevated site.

“People are looking to build their forever home,” he added, touting the benefits of the location. “You have all the amenities of living in the city, but you’re above it.”

Moyle said the site was considered “unbuildable,” due to the varying elevations of the site, but the company found a way to maximize what nature offered them.

“We had to reshape the whole thing,” Moyle said. “This is the best fit for the property.”

He said much of the site preparation is complete, including the installation of some utilities. Semco Gas Company will supply gas service in the spring, when curbs and other details will be addressed.

While two lots are spoken for, the rest are up for grabs. Moyle said the cost of the lots is still being worked out, interested people can contact the company.

Helping to pave the way for the project, the Houghton City Council approved the property descriptions of the lots at its regular meeting last week. The city was also involved in some of the site preparations.
