Keweenaw photographers win photo contest

Three photographers from the Keweenaw Peninsula area won awards in Lake Superior Magazine’s 22nd annual Lake Superior Photo Contest. Their images were among the few honored from a field of more than 1,000. The top winners were announced in the February/March issue of the magazine. The images are also online at LakeSuperior.com.

LOCAL WINNERS

Heidi Mensch of Nisula took Second Place in the Artsy/Altered category for “Fall in Love.” She says, “I was looking to create a picture that showed the beauty of our fall leaves. I found some of the brightest leaves and arranged them to display my love for fall, hence the heart cutout of one of the pictures. It is my favorite season in the U.P. and is the season I take the most pictures.”

Miriam Pickens of Hancock earned an Honorable Mention in Nature for “Swallowtail on Dianthus.”

Wanda Erkkila of Calumet won an Honorable Mention in People/Humor for “Hello, There!”
