Steve Lancour Memorial Winter Clothing Drive today

HOUGHTON — The Steve Lancour Memorial Winter Clothing Drive will take place during the MacInnes Holiday Classic Tournament, which is sponsored by the Calumet Education Association, the Hancock Education Association, and the Houghton Education System, according to Emilie Lancour.

Donations of new or gently used clothing items of all sizes will be accepted on Thursday and Friday evening from 5-8:30 p.m. at the SDC.

Items needed include hats, gloves, mittens, jackets, snow pants, and boots.

A curb-side drop off will be available outside of the main entrance of the SDC, in addition to a collection site inside the building, near the ice arena.

All items will distributed to K-12 students in need of warm clothing in the Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw (CLK), Hancock and Houghton school systems.

The Steve Lancour Memorial Winter Clothing drive is in honor of Lancour, who passed away in December, 2017, due to complications from surgery. He graduated from Northern Michigan University with a degree in elementary education, then with a Master’s Degree in Special Education.

Lancour had worked as a paraprofessional and driver’s education instructor in the Hancock Public Schools, at Jeffers High School as a special education teacher, then in the CLK Public Schools, filling many roles, including teaching 6th grade math.

Emilie and Steve, high school sweethearts, were married in 1997.

“Your generosity is appreciated,” Emilie said in regards to the memorial clothing drive.
