The Houghton I team took home runner up honors in the tournament. Team members include: Samuel Fang, Yash Tiwari, team captain Kate Desrochers and Brian Knewtson. They are coached by Rebecca Keyes.

The competition consisted of three rounds in the morning and the fourth in the afternoon. In the Little 8 division, Bessemer III beat Hurley III for the championship by 325-240.

The Spring Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament is sponsored each year by Gogebic Community College. The event was organized by retired Math instructor, Carl Vaara, with assistance from Bill Perkis, Forestry Instructor and Dayle Jackson, Director of Student Outreach and Engagement and Phi Theta Kappa Advisor.

Gogebic Community College hosts both fall and spring Quiz Bowl events on campus annually for high school students. “Today’s competition included 24 teams from 12 schools. Approximately 150 students along with their coaches were in attendance. The students came from schools in the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin. Without the help of the GCC staff, community volunteers and Phi Theta Kappa students, this tournament would not be possible,” said Vaara.
