Copper TRACES education event update

The fourth annual Copper TRACES educational event at Keweenaw National Historical Park has been cancelled due to Michigan Executive Order No. 2020-42, and the transition of physical school attendance to remote learning. After reviewing all other options, park staff are unable to find a way to offer this program without endangering students, volunteers and staff.

The National Park Service and twenty-two community and state organizations, along with over fifty volunteers, host Copper TRACES each May. This event is part of the Open Outdoors for Kids program and is supported by the National Park Foundation through annual funding for busing and lunches. The educational event reaches over 500 fourth grade students from six counties in western Upper Michigan as they visit the park and engage in an immersive field trip experience to learn about the area through history, social studies, math, science, art, music, and civics.
