Competition launched to pick best Keweenaw fall colors destination

For the first time ever, the Keweenaw’s favorite fall colors destination will be determined through month-long competition organized by the Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau. The Keweenaw Fall Colors Challenge, which begins on Aug. 25, pits 16 scenic sites and routes in a winner-take-all online voting competition. Participation in the voting is free and will take place on www.Keweenaw.info.

Organized by the Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau (KCVB), the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce, and Mainstreet Calumet, the Keweenaw Fall Colors Challenge is an online voting competition patterned after the NCAA’s March Madness college basketball tournament. Popular fall color scenic sites and routes will be pitted against each other in a series of head-to-head, single elimination matchups. The winner of each match will be determined through online voting polls on the KCVB’s Facebook page. First round winners will advance to the next until a final champion is declared.

“With fall just around the corner, we’ve already received hundreds of inquiries about our fall color season,” says Tara Arens, Manager of the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce. “It’s no secret we welcome thousands of travelers to our area around this time of year to experience some of the most vibrant fall foliage in our state. Now, more than ever, tourism is vital to our local economy, supporting small businesses and jobs, and this season is the perfect time to explore all of what our area has to offer.”

With autumn just around the corner, the Keweenaw is preparing for a strong “leaf peeping” season. Each year, the region draws visitors from across the Midwest to view the Copper Country’s vibrant fall foliage.

“The Keweenaw really shines during the fall months,” explained Brad Barnett, Executive Director of the Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We’re known for our spectacular colors, and there’s no better place to get outdoors and experience autumn’s scenic beauty. And this event gives people a chance to share what the love about the Keweenaw even if they can’t make it up here this season.”
