Aspirus expands cancer care to Baraga County residents through partnership with BCMH

BARAGA – Residents of Baraga County and the surrounding area no longer have to travel great distances to receive cancer care. Aspirus, in partnership with Baraga County Memorial Hospital (BCMH), has expanded its oncology services to meet the growing needs of patients in the Baraga County area. Aspirus Oncologist and Hematologist Divis Khaira, MD, and Aspirus Physician Assistant Audrea Williams are now seeing patients at BCMH.

“Our No. 1 priority is our patients and providing them with the highest levels of specialty care close to home,” said Kathy Bowman, Regional Clinic Director for Aspirus. “Oncology appointments can sometimes be unsettling for people, especially if you have an hours-long ride to your doctor to think about it. Here, patients have much quicker access to care for the best outcomes.”

Dr. Khaira joined Aspirus medical staff in March. She sees patients at Aspirus hospital and clinic locations across the Upper Peninsula. Her focus is on helping people take an active role in their care to ensure the best possible experiences and outcomes.

“Being able to have this close relationship with our patients means everything to us because we see first-hand the fear that people experience when dealing with cancer,” Dr. Khaira said. “We understand everyone’s needs are different, however taking care of our health is a must and that’s why we’re here – to provide excellent care for our patients when they need it most.”
