Racine rules Rice Lake Fishing Derby

LAKE LINDEN – Jenny Racine’s 10-pound northern pike was the catch of the day at the 2014 Rice Lake Fishing Derby put on by the Lake Linden-Hubbell Sportsmen’s Association.

The winning catch Sunday was 35 inches long.

The walleye division turned out to be a dead heat, as both Dylan Cruickshank and Curtis Kinnunen caught 23.5-inchers that weighed 4 pounds, 8 ounces.

Tyler Desselier came in third with a 22.75-inch walleye weighing 3-12.

After Racine’s lunker, the best northern was Glen Manninen’s 29-inch, 5-pounder. Steve Joosten came in second (25.75 inches, 2-14) and Brandon Loper was third (24.5 inches, 2-9).

Several juniors had successful days on the water, led by Jacie Stukel’s 4-pound, 3-ounce walleye coming in at 23 inches long. Luke Marcotte (3-8, 21 inches) was second and Jason Mach (3-4, 21 inches) third.

In the junior northern division, Isaac Bennetts was best at (25 inches, 2-12). Alli Goldsworthy (23.5 inches, 2-2) and Gracie Perala (23 inches, 2-8) rounded out the top three.

Calvin Rinkinen landed a 28-inch, 5-pound, 7-ounce northern to win the kids division. Chloe Baril (25.5 inches, 3-10) and Brayden Beaudette (25.5 inches, 3-0) took the other medal spots. In the children’s walleye division, Lillian Luokus (20 inches, 2-10) was first, followed by Kevin Stukel (19.75 inches, 2-6) and Camryn Bastian (19.5 inches, 2-3).
