Delong leads rampant Ski Tigers

CABLE, Wis. – On one of the toughest courses in the Midwest, the Copper Country Ski Tigers race team represented well in the Midwest/Great Lakes Junior National Qualifier this weekend.

In the Saturday classic races, Mitchell Delong dominated the U-16 field, finishing 30 seconds ahead of the next racer in the 5-kilometer race. Gretchen Haggenmiller (second in the middle school 3-k race) and Anabel Needham (third place in the U-14 5-k race) rounded out the top 10 for the Ski Tigers.

In the Sunday mass start skate race, Delong once again finished in first place, followed closely by Ben Wood (10th place overall, 2nd in the high school division). Also finishing in the top 10 were David Jaszczak (8th place, U-18 division) and Tim Stone (6th place, high school division).

In the girls’ races, Haggenmiller once again finished on the podium, finishing second overall in the 3-k race (first in the middle school division). Needham was the other Tiger to finish in the top 10, placing 6th in the U14 category.
