Business Skills-Building Series Kicks Off

HOUGHTON, MI — The MTEC SmartZone (MTEC) and Invent@NMU (Invent) are collaborating with Main Street Calumet and Keweenaw Coffee Works on the series event – Caffeinated Conversations – at Keweenaw Coffee Works (KCW) in Calumet, Michigan. KCW is a community space that offers opportunities like the Caffeinated Conversations series. MTEC and Invent will be presenting on how to start a business and launch a product respectively in this three-part business skills-building series. Caffeinated Conversations was created around the idea of supporting the community through value-added content, networking opportunities, and the ability to incorporate tangible, action items to a person’s professional development.

“Our area is home to a lot of people with great ideas, and Main Street Calumet wants to see those ideas become reality”, says Leah Polzien, Executive Director at Main Street Calumet. “The MTEC SmartZone and Invent@NMU have great programs for starting and growing business ideas and we’re excited to see what their collaboration with local entrepreneurs will bring!”

MTEC and Invent continue to work collaboratively to provide business development support to local entrepreneurs. Caffeinated Conversations was another opportunity to work together to bring resources to the local community and people interested in starting a business or launching a product idea. MTEC and Invent’s role in the event will be to provide their expertise to attendees as well as showcase the resources their organizations have to offer as follow-up support. Both organizations bring their expertise in guiding the entrepreneur or inventor through the processes around business and product development practices.

“Through outreach opportunities with our community, MTEC is able to identify, mentor, and support the launch new ventures right here in our own backyard”, says Jason Mack, VP Business Development at MTEC SmartZone.

“We are excited to use Caffeinated Conversations as another opportunity to connect with the Calumet community,” says Kylie Bunting, Marketing Manager at Invent@NMU. “With the resources available from both MTEC and Invent@NMU, entrepreneurs and inventors can identify their next steps through this three-part series.”

The first event in the three-part series is Saturday, September 21, 2019. To learn more about the events and how to participate go to https://www.mainstreetcalumet.com/caffeinated-conversations.html.
