David Allen Snyder

CALUMET – David Allen Snyder, 68, of Calumet, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain.

David was born on May 29, 1947, to Lloyd and Mabel (Ballari) Snyder in Hubbard Lake, Michigan.

He graduated from Waterford Township High School class of 1965, where he was an avid athlete.

After high school, he went to serve in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. During that time, he received The Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement.

After the war he worked for General Motors for several years. He then moved to the Copper Country to manage the Michigan House Restaurant, the BonTon Restaurant and also worked at the Red Garter.

From there, he went to work for Frito Lay as a delivery man and regional representative. Prior to his retirement, he worked for the Keweenaw Academy as a counselor. After his retirement, he enjoyed babysitting his grandchildren.

David was a great stay-at-home dad for many years, as well. He loved playing his guitars and reading. He was also a great pool and dart player and enjoyed playing softball for Luigi’s slow pitch league. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family at their Gratiot Lake camp that he helped build. There he found enjoyment in fishing, boating, picking thimbleberries, and cooking great barbecue chicken.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his bother, Dennis Snyder.

Surviving are his wife, Melody Snyder; son, John Snyder of Calumet; daughter, Danielle (Peter) Woods of Calumet; brother, Bruce (Jane) Snyder of Orchard Lake, Michigan; sister, Carolyn (Ken) Flowers of White Lake, Michigan; grandchildren, Serenity, Melody and Noah; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at 3 p.m. with Pastor Peter Vorhes to officiate. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday January 9, 2016, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.
