Brenda Coleen Barnhart

MARQUETTE – Brenda Coleen Barnhart, 64, of Marquette, died Sunday afternoon, February 7, 2016, in Phoenix, Arizona, after a lengthy battle with Lymphoma.

She was born May 17, 1951, in Laurium, the daughter of the late Robert and Evelyn (Codere) Buzzo.

She was a graduate of Lake Linden-Hubbell High School in 1969.

On September 20, 1969, she married Paul Barnhart of Hancock. In 1979, they moved from Hancock to Marquette, where they made their home and raised their three children.

Brenda had part-time employment at a local ice cream shop when the children were young and later retired from Sara Lee Bakery, formerly Bunny Bread, in Marquette in 2010.

Brenda was a devout Catholic and member of St. Louis the King Catholic Church in Harvey, and was an active member in the Parish Women’s Club and various committees.

She was well known by all for her delicious baked goods, pies and homemade cooking. Every November, she spent endless hours making crafts and baked goods for the Annual Christmas Bazaar. Her newest learned craft was beautifully hand sewn greeting cards.

Brenda had many special friends and neighbors in her life, but cherished her Bunko friends the most.

Brenda and Paul spent much of their retirement traveling to Alaska, Hawaii and Mexico and enjoyed spending the winter months in Arizona. Together, they tirelessly traveled to numerous sporting and special events of their three grandchildren.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Paul Barnhart of Marquette; sons, Jeff Barnhart of Madison, Wisconsin, and Cory Barnhart of Phoenix, Arizona; daughter, Kelly (Deryck) Korhonen of Bark River; three cherished grandchildren, Mattie Barnhart of Madison, Mason and Reese Korhonen of Bark River; brothers, Thomas (Debbie) Buzzo of St. Petersburg, Florida, Robert (Carman) Buzzo of Kearsarge; sisters, Sandra (Paul) Joosten of Ishpeming and Mary (Dan) Sivonen of South Range; brother in laws, James (Linda) Barnhart of Woodbury, Minnesota, and Michael Barnhart Sr. of Sherman, Texas; and sister in law, Ann Marie (Burt) Colombo of Marquette.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Louis the King Catholic Church.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in the church with Rev. Glenn Theoret officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the St. Louis the King Catholic Church Women’s Club.
