Daniel J. Kaasa

CHASSELL – Daniel J. Kaasa, 65, a resident of Chassell, passed away Monday, September 5, 2016, at UP Health System-Marquette following a lengthy illness.

He was born on January 6, 1951, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, a son of Dorothy (Systelien) Kaasa and the late Ivan Kaasa.

Dan was raised in the Dalton, Minnesota area and was a graduate of the Ashby High School with the Class of 1969.

Feeling the need to serve his country, Mr. Kaasa then enlisted in the United States Army where he served two tours in Vietnam as an Army medic.

He then returned to Minnesota for 10 years. He then became a traveling brick layer and resided in New Hampshire. For the past 25 years, Dan has called Chassell his home.

In August of 2013, he was able to retire but suffered a stroke shortly after and battled health issues since.

Mr. Kaasa enjoyed spending time with his buddies.

Preceding him in death were his father, Ivan; and his sister, Janet Makela.

Surviving are his mother, Dorothy Kaasa of Osakis, Minnesota, his brother and sister, Tom Kaasa of Osakis and Ann (Paul) Hartmann of Osakis; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A time to remember Dan will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2016, at the Chassell Pavilion from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., where the Copper Country Veterans Association will hold Military Honors at 4 p.m.
