Erwin A. Massie

ATLANTIC MINE Erwin A. Massie, 59, a resident of Atlantic Mine passed away at his home on Sunday, September 18, 2016, following a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on June 16, 1957, in Hancock a son of Edward and Noel (Arndt) Massie.

He attended the Chassell schools and graduated from the Chassell High School with the class of 1975.

On June 16, 1979, he was united in marriage to Mary Larson and she preceded him in death on August 18, 2007. He then was united in marriage to Carol Maki on April 5, 2008.

Erwin was a self-employed electrician and also drove bus for Indian Trails.

Erwin enjoyed fishing, golfing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family and many friends.

He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Brendan Johnson; niece, Shannon Massie; and father in laws, Raymond Larson and Walter Maki.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Gerald (Michelle) Massie of Dickinson, North Dakota, Emelia (Randy) Johnson of Atlantic Mine, Melinda Massie of Anchorage, Alaska, Ann (Kirk) Standridge of Copper City, Rebecca Massie of Atlantic Mine, Michelle (Pete) Raasakka of Ishpeming, Michael (Emily) Massie of Dickinson, North Dakota; grandchildren, Brett, Lars and Leanna Massie, Ivan, Owen, Thea and Mason Johnson, Kayla, Riley and Finn Standridge; brother, Edward Jr. (Carol) Massie of Reno, Nevada; sister, Margie (Bill) Fleischman of Eagle, Wisconsin; mother-in-law’s, Ruth Maki of Hancock and Sylvia Larson of Hancock; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and cousins.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church in Houghton with Pastor David Taivalkoski to officiate.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church on Sharon Avenue in Houghton and one hour prior to the funeral on Thursday, September 21, 2016.

Burial will be held in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
