Kathleen J. “Cait” McInnes

L’ANSE/BEACON HILL – Kathleen J. “Cait” McInnes, 38, of L’Anse and Beacon Hill, lost her difficult two year battle with cancer on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor. Her parents, Gordon and Kathleen, and special friend, Steve, were at her bedside.

Cait was born in Pontiac on October 13, 1977, and moved to Beacon Hill in 1985 with her family. She graduated from Houghton High School in 1995 and attended Eastern Michigan University. She was a frequent visitor at Fortune Lake Camp in Crystal Falls.

Cait was a trained masseuse and had worked in Denver at the Boyne Resorts, Marquette, and finally at the Back To Basics Spa in L’Anse.

Cait enjoyed playing the clarinet, sketching and house renovation. The woods, water and lifestyle of the U.P. brought her peace.

Cait was vivacious, alive and optimistic. She was inquisitive and eager to learn. She lived life on her terms, which did not include doing the dishes.

Preceding her in death were her father, Joseph Patrick Thomson; grandpa, David McInnes; grandpa, Bobby Harrison; and uncle, Tim Harrison.

Cait is survived by her parents, Gordon J. and Kathleen M. (Harrison) McInnes of Beacon Hill; sister, Bridget McInnes (Chris Buck) of Richmond, Virginia; brother, Andrew J. McInnes of Ashland, Wisconsin; grandma, Barbara Harrison; her favorite aunt and uncle, Helen and Ron Brisson of Clarkston; and also several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Cait wishes to extend a final thank you and farewell to Becky and Dr. D’Augustino of L’Anse, staff members at Bay Ambulance, Baraga, and at Baraga Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, long-time friends Danny, Candi and Ele, co-workers, Dawn and Erin, instructor Ed at Bay Ambulance, Dave and Joan of Marquette, confidante Danielle of Marquette General Hospital, and the numerous friends and acquaintances in L’Anse and elsewhere along life’s journey. Her dog Thurgood will be missed. And a final, fond farewell to her special friend, Steve Irwin.

Cait requested no viewing or funeral services. She will be cremated.

Arrangements are being handled by the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home of Hancock.

For those inclined to donate in memory of Cait, it is suggested that Bay Ambulance of Baraga, the Chemo Treatment area at Baraga Memorial Hospital, L’Anse, or the cancer research organization of your choice be considered. Godspeed
