Marie (Ozello) Massi

Marie was born to Joseph and Mary (Arietta) Ozello on October 3, 1935, in Calumet. She went to school at Sacred Heart and Calumet High School, graduating with the Class of 1953.

Marie was united in marriage to John Massi on September 10, 1960, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and they celebrated 56 happy years of marriage.

She worked as a secretary for Dr. Anthony, who was a Dentist in Laurium. After that, she worked as a secretary at Met Life Insurance in Hancock. Marie worked as the Office Manager for Dr. Mark Carlton and Dr. Sally Orr for 20 years.

She was also a volunteer at Aspirus Keweenaw hospital, was involved in the Auxiliary, and was very active at the Sacred Heart Church.

Family and friends were very important to her. She could never spend enough time with her grand daughter, Hannah, who was the light of her life.

For the past 40 years she met with the “coffee girls” for her dose of laughter. Marie enjoyed spending time with family and friends in the kitchen. She considered the friends of her children as her own. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard and Ted; six sisters, Carmen, Verna, Bernice, Antoinette, Ruth Ann and Claire.

Surviving are her husband, John of Calumet; son, Marty (Peg) Digby of Chandler, Arizona; daughter, MaryClarie (David) Massi-Lee of Escanaba; and granddaughter, Hannah Lee of Escanaba.

A memorial mass will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016, at 12 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Monday, September 12, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will take place in the Lake View Cemetery in Calumet.
