Frances Rozich

MOHAWK – Frances Rozich, 100, a former resident of Mohawk, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 30, 2016 at Portage Pointe in Hancock.

She was born on September 3, 1916, to John and Elizabeth (Grathoff) Schuler in the Central Mine Location.

She attended the Mohawk School and graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1934.

Frances and her family lived in the Central Mine Location until the age of six, then they moved to Mohawk. Frances lived over 90 years at the family home in Mohawk.

She worked in various clerical positions locally, retiring from First of America Bank in September of 1978.

On June 7, 1947 she married Joseph Rozich in Calumet. She and Joseph were members of St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet.

In 2011, Frances was honored as the oldest lifelong resident of Keweenaw County. She had a great interest in local history, particularly that of Keweenaw County.

Frances is preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth; and her husband, Joe.

Frances’ family was her greatest source of joy.

She is survived by her son, Joseph F. (Sharon) Rozich of Mohawk; granddaughters, Jolynn (Beau) Blackburn of Marquette and Joni (Darren) Erkkila of Mohawk; four great-grandchildren, Aubree, Skyler, Adelyn and Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Calumet, with Father Abraham Mupparathara to officiate.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.
