Gary L. Dubey

HANCOCK – Gary L. Dubey, 71, a resident of Hancock and former Ontonagon resident, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 16, 2016, at the Omega House in Houghton following a short battle with cancer.

He was born on November 21, 1944, in Ontonagon, the son of Ward and Ellen (Killoran) Dubey. He attended the Ontonagon Schools.

He was united in marriage to the former Sally Drew and after 20 years, they parted as friends.

Gary had worked for REA in Ontonagon before beginning a career working for the paper mill in Ontonagon, retiring from Smurfit-Stone Container as a heavy equipment operator. He also owned and operated Gary’s Pool Service where he had installed and serviced swimming pools for over 25 years.

He was a former member of the Ontonagon Volunteer Fire Department.

Gary enjoyed fishing, bowling and working on various projects for his family and friends. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions, Red Wings and Tigers.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his brother, Michael, his sister, Michelle; and his niece, Ashley.

Surviving are his daughters, Tammy (Neil) Ahola of Hancock, Renae (Randal Sahs) Dubey of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin; his grandsons, Zachary Ahola and Thaddeus Sahs; his sisters and brother, Ruth Thomas of Delavan, Wisconsin, Sharon (Mike) McGhee of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Robin (Craig) Johnson of Darien, Wisconsin, Kelley (Tom) Swan of Waukesha, Wisconsin, Patrick (Lynn) Dubey of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; special cousin, Dean (Louise) Tallman of Clinton, Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A service for Gary will be held at a later date.

In lieu of expressions of sympathy, the family asks that memorials be given to the Omega House in Houghton in Gary’s memory.
