Gordon E. Jukuri

HANCOCK – Gordon E. Jukuri, 85, a resident of Hancock and former Chassell and Keweenaw Bay resident, died Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident-patient for the past three months.

Gordon was born April 24, 1931, in Laurium, a son of the late Emil and Lempi (Hendrickson) Jukuri and was a 1950 graduate of the Calumet High School.

Gordon served in the 107th Engineer Battalion Michigan National Guard of Calumet.

He worked for Northern Co-op as a truck driver, crane operator for Klatsky Brothers, diesel mechanic for Calumet & Hecla, worked for Herman Gundlach, Inc. and operated the Mobil Station in Houghton.

Gordon and his wife, Marilyn, owned and operated Gordon’s Flower Shop in Hancock. Gordon also did small engine repair at his home in Chassell.

Gordon was married to the former Marilyn Kettenbeil on June 12, 1950, in Lake Linden.

Gordon was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church of Pelkie. While residing in Chassell, he was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock, where he was instrumental in the building of the church.

He served on the Copper Country Junior Hockey Board, was a board member and past president of the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association, a board member of R.E.A. of Ontonagon and the Michigan Electrical Co-operative Association, served on the Houghton County Board of Commissioners and the board of the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

Gordon is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of Hancock; a daughter, Donna (John) Kohut of Gwinn; two sons, Paul (Beth) Jukuri of Chassell and Mark Jukuri of Houghton; four grandchildren, Georgeann (Karl) Larson, Abigail (Peter) Granroth, Hannah and Eli Jukuri; a great-granddaughter, Sylvi Granroth; two brothers, Dave (Barbara) Jukuri of Hancock and John Jukuri of Laurium; a sister-in-law, Theresa Jukuri of Laurium; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents; Gordon was also preceded in death by two brothers, James and Lawrence; and two sisters-in-law, Ruth Jukuri and Gail Jukuri.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2016, at Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie with Pastors John Autio and Paul Marin to officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2016, at the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home in Hancock and one hour prior to the service on Monday, October 17, 2016, in the church. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.
