James W. Hiltunen

ALSTON – James W. Hiltunen, 81, of Alston, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at UP Health System-Portage in Hancock.

He was born on April 7, 1935, at the family farm in Alston, the son of William and Kathleen (Phillippi) Hiltunen. Jim attended Alston School.

At age of 16, he began hauling logs. He owned Jim’s Texaco in Baraga for about 10 years prior to moving to the Appleton area to work for Boldt Construction Company in the late 1970s. He then moved back to Alston and was a self-employed mechanic.

Jim was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling and going to casino’s.

Surviving are his children, Beth Hiltunen-Laux of Appleton, Wisconsin and her daughter, Aubrey Laux, Gail (Mark) Gintner of Neenah, Wisconsin and children, Aaron and Anthony Gagnon, James (Connie) Hiltunen, Jr. of Neenah, Wisconsin and children, Brooke and Jeremy Hiltunen, Linda (Michael) Huff of Appleton, Wisconsin and children, Christopher and Lauren Huff, Nancy (Craig) Rabideau of Neenah, Wisconsin; his brothers, Peter (Judith) Hiltunen of Alston, John (Judith) Hiltunen of Ft. Worth, Texas, Michael (Lori) Hiltunen of Little Chute, Wisconsin; sister, Patricia Boyd of Caledonia, Wisconsin; sister-in-law, Carol Hiltunen of Fairbanks, Alaska; life partner, Shirley Drake of Houghton.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Hiltunen; son, Jeffery Hiltunen; sister, Lois Clarey; sister-in-law, Donna; and brother-in-law, Donald Boyd.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. John Autio officiating.

Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery.
