Rudolph “Jack” Walley

Mr. Walley was born on June 24, 1925, in Hubbell, a son of the late Rudolph and Pearl (LaFave) Walley. He attended Dollar Bay Schools and the Lake Linden Schools.

As a young man he worked on an oar boat for one season on the Great Lakes, where he received his Firing and Oiling License.

He then served with the United States Navy during World War II in the Philippine Islands. After leaving the Navy he began a career working for Oldsmobile, retiring after 31 years as an engineering inspector.

On May 27, 1947, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Gertrude Sincock.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and the VFW Post #4624 of Hubbell.

He was a very handy person that helped remodel his mother’s and mother-in-law’s homes. He also enjoyed hunting for agates in the area and was active in the local rock clubs.

Preceding him in death were his parents and his brother, Robert.

Surviving are his wife, Gertrude Walley; children, Douglas (Helen) Walley and Karen (John) Deiters; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret Chapman; and a brother, Don Walley; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services for Jack will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock, with Rev. Aaron Gehrke to officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Hill Cemetery of Lake Linden.

Friends may call on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, from 10 a.m until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Hubbell or Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in memory of Rudolph “Jack” Walley.
