William George “Bill” Rowe

HOUGHTON William George ‘Bill’ Rowe, 79, of Mill Road, Houghton, passed away Tuesday evening, October 11, 2016, at UP Health System – Marquette.

Bill ‘Row Boat’ was born August 12, 1937, in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada, to George and Ida Rowe.

He moved to Houghton, in the late 1950s to attend Michigan Technological University, where he played goalie for the hockey team and earned his bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering, with the class of 1963. He then earned his master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan.

Bill also played hockey for the Marquette Iron Rangers and Green Bay Bobcats following his schooling, as well as helping as a goalie coach at MTU, NMU and U of M.

He then moved back to Houghton where he was employed as a librarian for MTU and lived the remainder of his life.

Bill is survived by many special friends.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at Schmidt’s Corner Bar and Grill, 16810, Fire Hall Road, Houghton.
