Kenneth N. Tervo

CHASSELL – Kenneth N. Tervo, 93, a resident of Snake River Hill, Chassell, passed away on Sunday morning, December 4, 2016, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he had been a resident patient for the past three years.

He was born in Chassell on September, 7, 1923, a son of the late Thomas and Kathryn (Kaarlela) Tervo. Ken was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1941.

Mr. Tervo was a veteran, having served with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

On August 8, 1953, he was united in marriage to the former Esther Angman.

He was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.

Ken had worked as a school bus driver and can hauler for Copper Country Dairy, where he met his wife. Ken then was a rural letter carrier retiring in 1985. Ken and Esther also ran their strawberry and dairy farm on Snake River Hill for more than 40 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Lillian and Jenny; infant sister, Mayme;  his brothers, Julius, Wilbert, Carl, Thomas and Wesley; and his grandsons, Trevor Tervo and David Szyszkoski.

Surviving are his wife, Esther Tervo of Chassell; his children, James (Christine) Tervo of Chassell, Carol (Gary) Saari of Chassell, Judy (Steve) Szyszkoski of Chassell, Richard (Naomi) Tervo of Chassell, Robert (Rebecca) Tervo of Negaunee; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren; his brother, Leo Tervo of Chassell;; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins,   from both the United States and Finland.

Funeral service for Ken will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2016, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.

Friends may call on Wednesday, December 7, 2016, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Thursday, December 8, 2016, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
