Luke A. Haataja

ANCHORAGE, Alas. – Luke A. Haataja, 21, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska and former Liminga resident, passed away unexpectedly in Anchorage, Alaska.

He was born on April 17, 1995, in Hancock, a son of Mark A. and Janie J. (Kiilunen) Haataja. He was raised in Liminga, attended the E.B. Holman School and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the Class of 2013.

Luke has been attending the University of Anchorage Alaska and working for Roy Bekkala while taking classes.

Luke is a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton.

He enjoyed spending time with his buddies, fishing and hunting.

Surviving are his parents, Mark and Janie Haataja of Liminga; his sisters and brothers, Ina Mae (Martin) Helminen of Williston, North Dakota, Emily (Neal) Ylitalo of Charleston, South Carolina, Mary Jane Haataja of Liminga, Chloe Haataja of Liminga, Samuel Haataja of Liminga, Charles Haataja of Liminga, Vera Haataja of Liminga, Ray Haataja of Liminga, Alice Haataja of Liminga; his maternal grandparents, Pete and Mary Kiilunen of Brighton, his paternal grandparents, Bruce and Ann Haataja of Traprock, three nieces and one nephew and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Luke will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with David Taivalkoski to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday, January 1, 2017, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Monday, January 2, 2016, from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church.
