Marvin R. Mattson

CALUMET – Marvin R. Mattson, 79, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2017, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility.

Marvin was born in Franklin Township, a son of Robert and Sylvia Mattson.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957.

Marvin was married to Carol Baumgardner in 1967.

He was employed with C & H, White Pine Mine, Houghton County Road Commission, Suomi College and a self-employed truck driver.

Marvin enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading western novels. He also was a Detroit Tigers basevall fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol; sisters, Ruth Mattson and Phyllis Kinnunen; and brother, Paul Mattson.

He is survived by  his son, Ray (Barb) McLennan of Calumet; daughter, Renee (Dan) Cunningham of Houghton; and son, Scott Mattson of Texas; sisters, Hellen Niemi of Hancock, Shirley Bleise of Calumet; a brother, Richard Mattson of Hubbell; and a brother-in-law, Emil Kinnunen of Calumet; grandchildren, Maryn Cunningham, Andrew, Jonathan, Jordan and Matthew Mattson, Elizabeth McCarthy, Heather and Kevin Saily; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 3 p.m. at the Ryan Funeral Home with Pastor Jayme Palaszeski to officiate. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2017, at the Ryan Funeral Home.
