Kristie Kontur

MOHAWK – Kristie Kontur, 51, passed into the fullness of life in Christ Tuesday, morning, and to reunion with her beloved Dad, Mom and Grandmother.

Kris grew up near Carleton, Michigan, attending St. Patrick’s Grade School and in 1984, graduated from St. Mary’s Academy High School in Monroe, Michigan.

Kris always had a deep love for dogs and a very special fondness for her first dog, Chipper.

Kris courageously faced many obstacles in her life including mental and physical challenges and in more recent years, emphysema and COPD. Even as she had many struggles, she also had a deep an ever abiding love for nature and thirst for adventure – she loved to hike, canoe and camp with friends in the Keweenaw area.

Kris also was very talented in carpentry and loved to work with her hands. While always struggling with doubt, she still continued to maintain her faith through some of the most difficult adversities in her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Marge Kontur.

She is survived by her brothers, David (Ann) and Mike, both of Toledo, Ohio; Danny (Stacie), Greg (Honeylove) and Brad, all from Southeast Michigan; and a sister, Beth (Brad Madison) of Superior, Wisconsin.

She will always be affectionately remembered as “Aunt Krissy Pooh” by all of her nieces and nephews!

A memorial service for Kristie will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2017, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet, with Pastor Tim Johnston to officiate.
