Albert C. ‘Abby’ Honkanen

MANITOWOC, Wis. – Albert C. “Abby” Honkanen, 86, passed away on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, in Manitowoc.

He was born on December 7, 1930, to the late, Charles and Cecelia (Goodreau) Honkanen in Beacon Hill. He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps, and proudly served his country.

On Feb. 15, 1958, he married Sharon Franti in Dollar Bay. She preceded him in death in 2003.

Abby worked for Green Bay Structural Steel as a truck driver for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Marlene (David) Brey, Charlie (Andrea) Honkanen, Thomas (Lisa) Honkanen and Sharlene (Richard) Baillargeon; grandchildren, Daven, Shane, Craig, Mitchell, Ariana, Cassandra (Steve), Tommy, Kristopher (sp. friend, Caressa), Alisha and Joseph; great-grandchildren, Zander, Ava, Lynzee, Evan, Xander and Olivia.

Abby is further survived by his brothers, Jerry (Audrey) Honkanen and Eddie Erickson; sister-in-law, Joanne (Cliff) Hannula; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Sharon; and brother, Donald (Toshiko) Honkanen.

Family and friends may visit on June 1, 2017, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14311 S. Maribel Rd, Maribel with Rev. Daniel Cole officiating. A memorial service will follow at 5 p.m. at the church.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at Laurel Grove Assisted Living especially Tammy, Selena and Michelle for all the wonderful care given Abby.
