Cheryl Lee (Cundy) Rozman

GWINN — Cheryl Lee (Cundy) Rozman, 70, passed away peacefully at her home in Gwinn, on March 3, 2018. She was also a winter resident of The Arbors Retirement Community in Osprey, Florida.

She was born on November 13, 1947, in Detroit, to Mary (Betty) Ewen and Ransom Cundy.

She spent a majority of her young life in Hubbell and attended Dollar Bay schools. She was a loving homemaker who enjoyed caring for her children and also worked for the Gwinn School District as a noon hour supervisor.

She was passionate about family, cooking, rearranging furniture, Bingo (online recently), watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, shopping and spending warm winter days in sunny Florida.

After the passing of her father, Ransom Cundy, who lost his life on the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975, she and other families worked tirelessly to retrieve the ship’s bell, which now resides as a permanent memorial at the Great Lakes Historical Museum in Whitefish Point, Michigan. She assisted in creating laws in Michigan and regulations under the Ontario Heritage Act establishing limits on access to shipwrecks for their protection against pillaging their underwater gravesites on both Lake Superior and Lake Ontario. She regularly visited many local schools to educate children about the Edmund Fitzgerald history as well.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary “Betty” Beaudoin; her stepfather, Paul Beaudoin; her father, Ransom Cundy; sister, Janice; father-in-law, Edward Rozman; and mother in law, Marion Rozman.
