Ellen M. Arvo

GREENLAND — Ellen M. Arvo, 84, of Greenland, died peacefully at her daughter Linda’s home in Westland, Friday morning, after her battle with Alzheimer’s.

She was the daughter of the late Eino and Mary (Anderson) Johnson. Ellen (Elly) was born, raised and resided the majority of her life in Greenland.

After high school, she moved to the Detroit area with girlfriends to work. It was at that time she met the love of her life, Donald, at parties that were held with individuals from the U.P.

After their marriage, they returned to Greenland to raise their four children, David (Sharron) of South Lyon, Linda of Westland, Bill of Greenland and Patty (Jeff) Miller of Lakeside, California.

Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Amber Lee, Kirk (Ashley) and Zach and Noah Arvo.

She is survived by her siblings, Mary Ann (late Leon) Rogers, Betty (Andrew) Martin, Alice (Norman) Weisinger, Barbara (late Ben) Kemppainen and Bill (Dorothy) Johnson; her sister-in-laws, Helen (late Donald) Johnson and Marlene (late Ernest) Johnson; her special cousin, Alfred and Sharon Johnson; as well as numerous nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; daughter-in-law, Darcie; infant son, Richard; and infant sister, Bernice.

Ellen enjoyed spending endless hours playing Solitaire, stated she remembers her grandfather playing and teaching her, Uno, Aggravation, watching the Detroit Tigers and she enjoyed her visit at the new Tigers Stadium.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 10, 2018, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Mass City. Family will greet family and friends from 10 a.m. to time of the service at noon.

Burial will be at the Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring.
