Lydia M. Chiomenti

CALUMET — Lydia M. Chiomenti, 95, a resident of Calumet, passed away on November 30, 2018, at Portage Pointe in Hancock.

She was born on January 11, 1923, in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, to Vidal and Carmen Medina.

Her family moved from Puerto Rico to New York, where she attended local schools. She then attended Washington Adventist University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education.

Lydia worked in the Adventist school system for more than 50 years. She worked in Staten Island, New York, Tacoma Park, Maryland, and retiring from the school in Galax, Virginia.

While teaching, Lydia enjoyed directing the school plays for her students. She also loved arts and crafts. She enjoyed staying in touch with her family and her loved ones. She was also very active in her local churches throughout her life.

She married Michael Chiomenti in the fall of 1947.

Lydia was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, in Houghton.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Vidal and Carmen Medina; her siblings, Joe, Carmen, Dolly, Albert, and Lenora; and her husband, Michael.

She is survived by her son, Peter (Lyndelle) Chiomenti of Calumet; her daughter, Diane-Ruth Chiomenti of Berryville, Virginia; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Kibble; two great grandchildren, Korrin Battle and Monique Lincoln; her sister, Josephine Ortiz, in New York; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held later in the spring of 2019.

Burial will take place in the spring of 2019 in the Lake View Cemetery, in Calumet.
