Dolores Bastian

CALUMET — Dolores Bastian, 92, a resident of Calumet and currently residing at PortagePointe, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, March 2, 2019.

She was born on September 12, 1926, in Hubbell, a daughter of late Wilfred and Veronica (Perrault) Poisson.

Dolores graduated from Lake Linden Hubbell High School with the Class of 1944.

Following graduation, Dolores worked at the Copper Country Cheese Co-op in Dollar Bay, and at Gartners in Hancock.

On September 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to Francis “Jack” Bastian and he preceded her in death on November 12, 2003.

In 1968, she moved with her family to Redford where they resided for 20 years. They returned to Calumet to retire.

Dolores was a very talented seamstress. She also loved to knit and crochet. She was still crocheting afghans for her great grandchildren a year ago.

Preceding her in death were five brothers, Joseph, Herman, Robert, Francis, and Jerome; two sisters, Marie Stevens and Patsy Arens; daughter, Marcia; grandson, Sean; and two daughters-in-law, Janis and Lori.

Surviving are six children, John (Vicki) Bastian of Laurium, Bruce (Rose) Bastian of Redford, Dennis (Patsy) Bastian of Laurium, Gary (Mary) Bastian of Livonia, Jean (Joel) Smith of New Boston, and Tim Bastian (Suzanne Beauvais) of Southgate; nine grandchildren, David (Pam) Bastian of Calumet, Craig (Tanya) Bastian of Mohawk, Jeffrey (Jill) Bastian of Allen, Texas, Eric (Jennifer) Bastian of Grand Haven, Veronica (Chris) Zitterman of Canton, Jennifer Bastian of Novi, Joel (Jamie) Smith of New Boston, Carrie (Chad) Sinclair of New Boston, and Jerry (Sara) Ferrier of Waterford; 16 great grandchildren; sisters, Bernadette Genovesi of Hubbell, and Mary “Toni” Bastian of White Lake; and sister-in-law, Sharon Poisson of Hubbell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 12 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Church with Fr. Gracious Pulimoottil to officiate and assisted by Deacon Art Stancher

Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery.
