Margarite Jean Grahek

CALUMET – Margarite Jean Grahek, 92, a resident of Calumet, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019. She was born on November 6, 1926, in Calumet to Robert and Gena (Peterson) Renwick.

She attended the Calumet Public Schools and graduated with the Class of 1944.

Later, she lived for a short time in Flint, returning to Calumet in 1958 to make her home. She was employed for Newberry’s, JC Penney and for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as the group chief operator for 20 years. Then she was employed by Michigan Tech University for a short time in the administration department, retiring in 1971.

After retiring she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

On February 6, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edward F. Grahek in Calumet.

She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Laurium.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gena Renwick; her sisters, Elenore Renwick and Elizabeth (Betty) Baranowski; and her husband, Edward F. Grahek.

She is survived by her brother-in-law, Phil (Jayne Harvey) Baranowski of Calumet; her nieces and nephews whom she treated as her children, Philip (Cathy) Baranowski of Calumet, Debra (David) Crouch of Calumet, Beth (Mike) Salmela of Kearsarge, and Lori (Tom) Clute of Traverse City; and numerous great nephews, great nieces, and cousins.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Sunday, May 19, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday May 20, 2019, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Lundquist to officiate.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Luoma, Dr. Hafeman, the staff of Aspirus at Home, and her caretaker Jill Nelson for the excellent care they gave to Jean throughout her life.
