Shirley M. Zerbst

HANCOCK — Loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Sister, Shirley M. Zerbst, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at the age of 79.

She was born July 15, 1939, in Southfield, to the late Charles and Anna (Binoniemi) Kempainen. As a young child, her family had moved to the family farm in Dollar Bay. Shirley attended the Dollar Bay Schools having graduated with the Class of 1957.

Later that year, she married Raymond Zerbst. He preceded her in death in 1992. Shirley was a member of First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay.

Shirley had worked as a CNA for the Houghton County Medical Care and home health care.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, going to the casino, arguing about politics, and most of all, she loved her family. Especially her grandchildren.

Besides her husband and her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by an infant child, Deborah Lynn; her granddaughter, Jessica; and her siblings, Charlotte Hakkala and Paul Kempainen.

Surviving are her children, Raymond Jr. (Sandy), Keith (Joanna), Christine and Ron (Kristen); her grandchildren, Joseph, Charlie, Rachel, Keith Brian Jr., Amanda, Ashleigh and Katherine; her great- grandchildren, Carter, Henry, Caitlyn, Sophie, Trevor, Madeline, Gemma, Jade, Nathan, Robert J. and Ainslee; her sibling, Rita Moilanen, Betty Carlson and Chuck Kempainen; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at First Lutheran Church in Dollar Bay with Vicar Micah Cavaleri to officiate.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 10 a.m. until the time of services at the church. Burial will take place in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton.
