Wayne Charles Kostamo

PELKIE — Wayne Charles Kostamo, 59, of Pelkie, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at U.P. Health System, Marquette.

He was born September 21, 1959, in L’Anse, the son of Carl and Eva (Tolonen) Kostamo.

Wayne married Mary Rantanen on May 3, 1982, and they had one son, Wayne David.

Wayne loved working on old classic cars; restoring them to their original build. Going to car shows and auctions was his enjoyment. He also liked being on the computer and doing crossword puzzles. His favorite music was Polka. Watching Molly B., and Polka Time America was always a must for him. He was proud of his Finnish Heritage and enjoyed the sauna. Wayne watched RFD channel, Suomi Kutsuu “Finland Calling”, and was an avid listener to Jan Tucker on the radio. Wayne loved his dogs that he had, who were always riding with him. He enjoyed deer hunting, baking Saffron buns, loved to read and was self-taught in many things that way, and he was always behind his “Detroit Tigers”. Wayne was a quiet man, but a direct man.

He was employed by Pettibone, Erickson’s and the YACC’s.

He suffered from kidney failure and in 2006 he received a kidney transplant that lasted until February of 2019, when his donor kidney had also failed.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Kostamo of Pelkie; son, Wayne Kostamo of Baraga; grandson, Shane Kostamo of Baraga/L’Anse; sister, Karen Kostamo of Ann Arbor; and brothers, Calvin (Janet Raymond) Kostamo and Steve Kostamo, both of Pelkie.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Eva and Carl Kostamo, both formerly of Pelkie.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 2 p.m., at the Pelkie Cemetery with Rev. Kellan Weyer officiating.

A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the Mission United Lutheran Church Hall.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jacobson Funeral Home.
